Peter MacLean received a surprise 50 Years Of Service Award from Pipe Bands Australia at the Swan River Championship today.
WA Chairman, James Cowie, presented the certificate in front of the crowd, recognising Peter’s extraordinary contributions over 5 decades.
Peter MacLean learnt to play the pipes with the Eastern Goldfields Pipe Band in Kalgoorlie. He started playing with the band in in 1958, and got extra practice by also playing for the highland dancing girls. He became Pipe Major of the Eastern Goldfields at age 17 and is a Life Member of the band.
In 1976, Peter moved to Perth and began playing with Perth Highland Pipe Band. He became Pipe Major in 1981 and took the band on its first international competition in Jakarta in 1982 and its first national competition to Brisbane in that decade. He has been a Life Member of Perth Highland, Pipe Major three times, and is a past President.
Peter is also a past President of the WA Pipe Band Association. PBWA congratulates him on 50 Years Of Service to the Pipe Band community.
