About.

The Emmanuel College Highlanders have been a proud part of the Emmanuel College community since 1998. Originally founded as the Emmanuel College, University of Queensland Pipe Band by Andrew McCabe, with the support of patron Angus Edmonds, then Principal of Emmanuel College, the band quickly established itself as a respected musical ensemble.

From its early years, the band has maintained an excellent standard of musicianship, proudly representing both Emmanuel College and the University of Queensland. Its reputation grew rapidly, earning recognition not only throughout south-east Queensland but also across Australia.

Today, the award-winning Emmanuel College Highlanders continue this tradition of excellence, performing and competing at parades, festivals, and major events across the region. The band proudly wears the Stewart of Appin tartan, symbolising its Scottish heritage and enduring spirit.

With generous support from Emmanuel College and St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, the Highlanders remain a cornerstone of the community. Membership is open to all Emmanuel College students, alumni, and members of the wider community. Pipers and drummers seeking to join a dynamic, developing Grade 2 competition and performance band are encouraged to apply.
