The Victorian country town of Maryborough has a long and strong tradition of highland pipe band music. Australia’s first national pipe band championships were held in Maryborough in 1960, and will return there in 2024. The formation of the Victorian Highland Pipe Band Association (VHPBA) – the forerunner of Pipe Bands Victoria – also arose from meetings held in Maryborough.
The Maryborough and District Highland Pipe Band are proud to continue this long and illustrious history. The band plays locally and participates in the annual Street March and Highland Gathering on New Year’s Day. The band welcomes new members and learners.
