Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) recognises the knowledge and skills an individual has gained through previous study, employment, training, volunteering and life experience. If a students experience meets the learning requirements of a particular course, they may receive credit toward their qualificatio, helping them avoid repeating what they already know.

What can be considered varies by area of study. Select a discipline below to explore relevant experience and the types of evidence you may be asked to provide.

High School Certificate

Piping students may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) toward the PBA Intermediate Certificate if they completed HSC Music 1 with bagpipes as their primary instrument and achieved Band 5 or above.

Evidence of the result must be provided and verified by the student’s local Piping Vice President. For HSC Music 2, RPL may be granted for theory and music-writing components only; practical components are not eligible. This pathway does not currently apply to drumming.

The Australian Pipe Band College does not offer RPL for the Rules & Administration discipline.
