Rob joined the Rats of Tobruk Memorial Pipes and Drums as a learner side drummer in 1961. In 1983 Rob was asked to join the Hawthorn City Pipe Band Grade 1 and stayed with the band until 1993; when he returned to the Rats of Tobruk Pipe Band.
Competing and doing several tattoos Rob then, in 2014 with funding from the Victorian Highland Pipe Band Association produced the VCE “Highland Drumming” list of works book for students wishing to study Pipe Band Drumming in years 11 and 12.
Rob has served as the Vice Principal of Drumming in Victoria for three terms. He is presently in his second term as the National Principal of Ensemble & Adjudication.
