Australian drummers have delivered outstanding performances at the 2026 World Solo Drumming Championships, with six competitors representing their bands and Australia on the international stage.
Australia was strongly represented at this year’s championships, with four drummers from Hawthorn Pipe Band pre-qualifying for the Adult Semi-Finals:
- Edward Roxburgh
- Hamish Wallace
- Richard Black
- Steven Sheddan
All four delivered impressive performances against some of the world’s leading solo drummers, with Richard Black and Steven Sheddan progressing through to the Adult Final.
Steven achieved an exceptional 4th place overall, while Richard finished just outside the top six, marking a tremendous achievement for both competitors.
Australia’s emerging talent was also on display, with Brylee Walker, representing Ballarat Grammar, progressing to the final of the Juvenile March Section 2 and securing an outstanding 4th place.
Nicholas D’Couto, representing Hawthorn Pipe Band, also progressed to the final of the Juvenile Section 5 March, Strathspey and Reel (MSR) competition, finishing an impressive 8th place.
“These achievements highlight the depth of drumming talent developing across Australia and the dedication of young musicians working towards success at the highest levels of competition. Having such talented drummers in Australia, sharing their skills and knowledge through teaching goes well for the next generation coming through.” – Andrew Womersley, Principal of Drumming
Pipe Bands Australia congratulates all six competitors on their outstanding achievements and recognises the dedication, preparation and commitment required to compete on the world stage.
Congratulations to all involved!
