From foundational technique through to advanced musical refinement\, participants will engage in a structured and supportive environment focused on real improvement. \nMore than a series of workshops\, the retreat provides an opportunity to step away from routine band activity and focus on individual and ensemble growth—while building connections within the broader pipe band community.

DESCRIPTION:The Pipe Bands Australia Summer School series returns in 2025 with the inaugural ‘Winter Piping and Drumming Retreat’; Showcasing Piping\, Snare\, Tenor and Bass Drumming Tuition and workshops suitable for all ages and abilities from Novice to A grade. \nNot only does this represent a fantastic opportunity to make friends and new connections within the Pipe Band fraternity the retreat will include: \n\nTuning and ongoing management of instruments\nMusical theory\, playing technique and score construction\nRudimental execution and control\nThe sometimes dreaded ‘Piobairachd’\nStrategies for better solo playing including the minimisation of risk from a musical perspective\nEnsemble management across drum and piping corps\nAn introduction to new music\nAs well as an assortment of performances including an opening recital from the tutors and a closing concert from students.\n\nKey Points: \n\n11 to 13 July 2025\nKnox Grammar School\, New South Wales\nAll ages event suitable for players performing at a Novice level through to A grade (10 years an up)\nEntries Close 5:00pm 13 June 2025
