DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday\, October 11th for an insightful workshop session following the Tasmanian Solo Championships event. \nHosted by Pipe Bands Tasmania. \nDifferent areas of piping\, drumming\, and ensemble will be discussed on the day. \nMore details to be announced. \nVenue: Hobart Legacy\nTime: 9:30 am – Morning Tea and Coffee \nWorkshop: 10:00am – 3:00pm (Including break) \nWorkshop delivered by: \nAndrew Womersley \n\nAndrew is a respected drummer and educator\, with over five decades of experience as a performer\, teacher\, and adjudicator.\n\n\nCareer highlights include:\n\n\n\nBegan drumming with Mitcham Pipe Band in 1970\, before moving to City of Melbourne Pipe Band\, where he became Lead Drummer and led them to the Victorian Grade 1 Drum Corps Championship.\nMember of the Victoria Police Pipe Band\, performing under renowned Lead Drummers including Andrew Scullion\, Paul Turner\, and Harold Gillespie.\nHeld senior teaching roles at Scotch College Melbourne and Presbyterian Ladies’ College\, establishing and developing successful competitive school pipe band programmes.\nVice Principal of Drumming in Victoria\, and a professional drummer with the Victoria Police Pipe Band\, performing at community\, ceremonial\, and state functions.\nRegularly invited to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur as an adjudicator\, tutor\, and mentor.\nRecipient of the Peter Clohesy Award for services to pipe band drumming.\n\n  \n\nScott Nicholson \nScott currently serves as National Principal of Piping for the Australian Pipe Band College. Originally from New Zealand\, Scott was taught by Pipe Major John Downie of the City of Auckland Pipe Band before relocating to Edinburgh to compete with Drambuie Kirkliston Pipe Band. In 1998\, he returned to Perth to join the Western Australian Police Pipe Band\, contributing to the band’s Grade 2 World Championship victory that year.Scott later relocated to Sydney\, serving as Pipe Major of St Mary’s District Band Club Pipes and Drums and subsequently The Pipeband Club. Under his leadership\, the band progressed steadily back to Grade 1\, capturing the Grade 2 title at the 2006 Australian Championships and the Grade 1 titles in 2008 and 2010\, alongside podium finishes at the World Pipe Band Championships.Since 2013\, Scott has been Pipe Band Coordinator at The Scots School Albury\, leading the program to international prominence\, including Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo appearances and multiple overseas tours. In 2023\, the band secured the World Championship\, Champion of Champions title and Scottish Championship.\n  \nCost: Free to solo competitors or mini band competitors from the Saturday event.\n$10 for those who did not compete.
