{"id":1049,"date":"2024-04-01T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-31T21:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.staging.pipebandsaustralia.com.au\/newsouthwales\/?p=1049"},"modified":"2024-10-06T20:08:10","modified_gmt":"2024-10-06T09:08:10","slug":"anzac-week-resources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pipebandsaustralia.com.au\/newsouthwales\/2024\/04\/01\/anzac-week-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"ANZAC Week Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Scottish Act of Remembrance Parade, 25 April 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024 the Act will remain in its new location with the full Massed band marching into Martin place and forming up around the cenotaph as has been the practice prior to 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The march off will commence at EXACTLY 12.30pm from the King street form up position (on King, between Pitt and George). There is a window of only 20 mins while the trams are stopped for the parade to make its ways down George street and into Martin Place (thus vacating George street for the recommencement of tram services) \u00a0All Personnel taking part are requested to be assembled ready to proceed at 12.00 noon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>THE MARCH WILL COMMENCE AT EXACTLY 12.30PM FROM THE MARCH OFF POINT IN KING STREET.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NB BASS DRUMMERS &#8211; PLEASE BE AWARE THERE ARE BOLLARDS AND PLANTER BOXES AT THE ENTRANCE TO MARTIN PLACE\/CENOTAPH YOU WILL NEED TO NAVIGATE AROUND THESE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Parade Format<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>All Personnel taking part in the parade are required to form up on King street (to the east of George Street, between George and Pitt) facing West. The Massed Bands will form up with the head at the step off, right wheel out of King Street into George Street and continue along George Street until it reaches the bottom of Martin Place where it will right wheel into Martin Place with the pipers marching past the Cenotaph and coming to the halt, the lament will be played, then march out right wheeling into Pitt street coming to a halt and being dismissed<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All Commands will be given by the Drum Major in Charge and the head drum major.&nbsp;<strong>No other parade personnel are to issue commands.<\/strong>&nbsp;At all times, parade personnel are required to follow the directions of the Drum Majors in Command and members of the N.S.W. Police Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of the Scottish Community groups who are not laying wreaths but wish to take part in the Remembrance Parade are invited to form up behind the rear rank of the NSW Scottish Regimental Association who will be positioned directly behind the rear rank of the Massed Pipes and Drums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ANNEXURE A<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Command Personnel<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The parade will be under the command of Drum Major in Charge D\/M Doug Hall (Syd Thistle).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Massed Pipes and Drums will be led by Leading Drum Major, D\/M Nic Tragoustis (NSW Police).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A spearhead of Drum Majors as selected will be under the command of Drum Major Doug Hall,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is requested that all Drum Majors assist the Drum Major in Command when required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Please note no other Drum Majors are to join the spearhead unless authorised by D\/M Doug &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Hall.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pipe Corps<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PM John Iverson (NSW Police) will be the Senior Pipe Major.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NB please note that the first section of pipers will only number 12 ranks. Bands with less than 12 will have other pipers join them to fill the ranks and those with more than 12 pipers, excess pipers are required to either fill other ranks of other bands or move to the second section of pipers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Drum Corps<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following personnel have been appointed to play the lead parts in this parade:-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Acting D\/Sgt. Allie Adams (NSW Police Pipe Band)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>D\/Sgt. R Culbert (Sydney Thistle Highland Pipe Band)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>D\/Sgt. N Webb.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>D\/Sgt. S Patterson (TSC Old Boys Pipes and Drums)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>D\/Sgt. I McLellan (Castle Hill RSL Pipe Band)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>D\/Sgt. M Romer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The lead sides will be in the first rank of sides (ie directly behind the last rank of tenor drummers)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the above some lead drummers will be co-opted on the day<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bass Section<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bass Drummer of NSW Police PB has been appointed as the controlling\/Senior Bass Drummer for this parade. All other Bass Drummers must play more softly and in time with the senior bass drummer, i.e. not more loudly or ahead or behind. All tenor drummers are requested to follow the instructions of the appointed personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Note: All Bass drummers should play beat notes in groups of 3 with a rest between each tune (as in 3 pace rolls)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ANNEXURE B<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Parade Formation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The parade will form up in the following order:-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A.&nbsp;&nbsp; Spearhead Drum Majors<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>B.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Flag Party<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Chaplain, PBA Patron, PBNSW Chair and\/or representative<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D.&nbsp;&nbsp; Wreath Laying Party (Formed in ranks of eight)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Leading Drum Major (and Drum Majors)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>F.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Massed Pipes and Drums<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">SECTION ONE<\/span> &#8211; Pipers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PIPERS\u00a0 (SENIOR PIPE MAJOR) P\/M. YOUR CO-OPERATION IN THIS REGARD WOULD BE APPRECIATED.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ANNEXURE \u201cC\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Music<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The tunes to be played in order during the parade are:-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(SET ONE) Scotland the Brave &#8211; Rowan Tree 4\/4\u2019s<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(there will only be time to play once through this set before arriving at Martin Place, when the set is finished the Massed band will march to the tap)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the Cenotaph, \u201cFlowers of the Forest\u201d &#8211; Lament. ONCE THROUGH at a tempo of approximately 45 B.P.M. Introduction rolls will be 2 three pace rolls (Snare Drummers: 2 x 37 Stroke Rolls). All D\/Ms in this group will close files to pass the Cenotaph saluting. On approaching the Cenotaph, D\/M in Charge will order eyes \u2013 right \u2013 eyes front. The spearhead will resume original formation and take up their position in Martin Place, mark time and halt. The Flag and Wreath Parties will form two files moving down both sides of the Cenotaph, mark time and halt.&nbsp;<strong>(Do not face in).<\/strong>&nbsp;The Flag Party will take up their positions on the four corners of the Cenotaph and halt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6.&nbsp;&nbsp; As the Leading Drum Major approaches the Cenotaph, he will order Massed Bands \u201ceyes right and left\u201d. All Drum Majors are to salute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Once the rear rank of pipers is clear of the Cenotaph, Leading Drum Major orders \u201cEyes Front\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The Senior Bass Drummer (NSW Police PB) will continue marching up to the last rank of the centre two files of pipers and take up an \u201ceast-west&#8221; position with the right drum head facing the Drum Corps and Left Drum Head facing the Pipe Corps and await the arrival of the Pipe Majors. The Senior Bass Drummer and Drum Major in charge must be in eye contact with each other and the right arm of the Senior Bass Drummer must endeavour to be visible by the majority of Leading Snare Drummers. (N.B. In order to satisfy this last point, it may mean that the Senior Bass Drummer may need to move to a different file other than the centre two files.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Leading Drum Major \u2013 mace signal \u2013 mark time<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10.&nbsp; Leading Drum Major \u2013 mace signal \u2013 halt<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11.&nbsp; Leading Drum Major \u2013 Pipers \u201cAbout Turn\u201d. At this time Pipers relay Drum Majors. Spearhead Drum Majors will about turn. The Wreath Party will turn to face the Cenotaph and the Flag Party will turn to face out 45 degrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>12.&nbsp; At this point the front rank (and middle rank) of Pipe Majors will march back down through the ranks and take up the position forming the rank closest to the cenotaph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>13.&nbsp; The Senior Bass Drummer shall, once in position, begin to tap their foot at a tempo of approximately 45 B.P.M.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Drum Major-in-charge \u2013 Taking the tempo from the Senior Bass Drummer\u2019s foot, will give the command \u201cMassed Band, Lament, 1-2\u201d. At the commencement of the Lament,&nbsp;<strong>the Wreath Party will move forward all together and lay their respective wreaths.<\/strong>&nbsp;At the same time, the Flag Bearers will lower flags to be parallel with the ground.&nbsp;<strong>No part of the flag should make contact with the ground.<\/strong>&nbsp;All Drum Majors will salute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>14.&nbsp; Drum Major-in-charge \u2013 Pipers \u201cAbout Turn\u201d. On this command, pipers relay Drum Majors. Spearhead Drum Majors will about turn. The Pipe Majors will march back to their positions at the front rank of their pipers. The Wreath Party and Flag Bearers will turn to the front (Facing Pitt Street) and march through the pipers with Flag Bearers leading and take up their positions directly behind the spearhead of Drum Majors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>15.&nbsp; The Drum Major-in-charge is to give the order \u201cDrummers, will advance, at the tap, Quick March\u201d. The Drum Corps are to march forward to single beats from the Senior Bass Drummer, NSW Police PB, until they are closed up behind the Pipers and the D\/M-in-charge at which point the D\/M-in-charge will halt the Drum Corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Drum Major-in-charge will salute passing the Cenotaph<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>16.&nbsp; When all personnel are in position, the Drum Major-in-charge will give the order. Parade \u201cBy the Centre, Quick March\u201d. The parade will move off, right wheel march to Pitt Street Mall, mark time, halt, cease playing and dismiss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>17.&nbsp; Leading Drum Major &#8211; mace signal \u2013 right wheel<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>18.&nbsp; Drum Major-in-charge, Leading Drum Major \u2013 Mark time<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>19.&nbsp; Drum Major-in-charge, Leading Drum Major \u2013 Halt<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>20.&nbsp; Drum Major-in-charge, Leading Drum Major \u2013 Cease Play<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>21.&nbsp; Drum Major-in-charge \u2013 Parade Dismissed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All personnel are requested to stand fast until dismissed.
